In Gegharkunik, EU monitors record Azerbaijan carried out aggression against Armenia’s borders – governor

The EU monitors in Gegharkunik province have already recorded and are confident that there has been an aggression by Azerbaijan in the direction of Armenia’s borders and that there are occupied territories, Governor of Gegharkunik Karen Sargsyan told reporters today at a briefing in the Parliament, ARMENPRESS reports.

“Violations have been registered, but obviously they have decreased in recent days. In any case, the monitors conduct their patrol, which has also left an effect, this is also a reason that the adversary has reduced the shots”, the Governor said.

He said that the EU monitors have one headquarters in the province, but they are working along the border of 11 settlements. However, he refused to say exactly where they conduct the patrol service.

“They conduct monitoring every day and make new discoveries every day. The Governorate has provided all the information it has to our partners, and they have assured that they will present it as a repot. There are people among monitors who have already recorded and are confident that there has been an aggression by Azerbaijan in the direction of Armenia’s borders”, Karen Sargsyan said.

He informed that 8 EU monitors conduct mission in Gegharkunik.

“In terms of maps and the current location of Azerbaijani troops, they are confident that there are occupied territories from the territories of Armenia, and are sure that it has been as a result of the Azerbaijani aggression”, the Governor said.

Within the framework of the first meeting of the European Political Community in Prague, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met on October 6, 2022 at the initiative of the President of the French Republic and the President of the European Council. Armenia expressed its agreement to facilitate the EU civilian mission along the border with Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan agreed to cooperate with the mentioned mission to the extent it will be concerned.
