Baku opens embassy in Tel Aviv to follow threadbare project

In the past days, the Azeri parliament has made a decision with a majority of votes about opening an embassy in the Zionist regime; such a decision will turn Azerbaijan into the first country with a majority Shia population that opens an embassy in Israel, IRNA reports.

Although Azerbaijan Republic and the Zionist regime have a long record in broad cooperation in all areas in the past three decades, opening of an embassy by an Islamic country in the occupied lands is a kind of grimace to and treason against the Palestinian cause.

Also, the opening is like a show to dispatch special messages to the regional countries.

During the past years, officials of the Zionist regime of Israel and the Jewish lobby in Baku have called on Ilham Aliyev’s government over and over to set up an embassy in Tel Aviv to strengthen mutual ties; meanwhile, the Azeri president had not accepted to do so under some reasons.

First, Aliyev was after having support from the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to stand against Armenia, and second, he was afraid of Muslims uprising in Azerbaijan.

But, his unacceptance till this time did not mean that the Azeri government had withdrawn from having political, economic, social, and cultural relations with the Zionist regime.

Azeri government through cooperation with the Jewish society residing in Azerbaijan has been trying to follow certain aims after founding joint social and cultural centers in both Baku and Tel Aviv.

The main aim behind such a foundation was to term those centers as embassies. Azeri political officials or the country’s lawmakers were traveling to different cities in the occupied lands under the pretext of visiting the cultural centers, but they were following up the Azeri government’s plans there.

So, opening an embassy in the occupied lands was not an instant decision.

Through opening such an embassy, it seems that Aliyev’s regime, which is in a big military and diplomatic challenge dealing with Armenia, Iran, Russia and France, is after sending a hostile message far from the good neighborliness to its older neighbor- the Islamic Republic of Iran.

At present, Azerbaijan did so while the Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported its northern neighbor in critical conditions including the Karabakh dispute.

In recent months, Aliyev’s regime via various meetings and remarks has been trying to be recruited from forces and governments which express hostility against Iran in order to introduce its regime as the one which is against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Visit to Albania which gave rise to speculation about a meeting between Azeri security officials and the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO) members whose base is in Albania as well as presence in the conference of heads of Persian Gulf littoral states to accompany with certain Arab reactionary countries are among examples of Aliyev’s unfriendly and undiplomatic behavior.

Opening its embassy in the occupied lands is the latest provocative measure taken by Aliyev’s regime to show itself as the Zionist regime’s strategic ally.

By such measures and activities, it seems that Aliyev is after privilege to be granted to his regime under the shadow of artificial and empty unity, and such an opening which looks like to be a completion of a project on normalization of relations between Muslim countries and the Zionist regime of Israel can spark civil protest.
