Russia is responsible for Lachin Corridor – Secretary of Security Council of Armenia

Russia is mainly responsible for the Lachin Corridor, the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan said in parliament when asked on the matter by opposition MP Artsvik Minasyan, ARMENPRESS reports.

Minasyan quoted the government program which stipulates that Armenia will continue to be the guarantor of security of the people of Artsakh. He asked Grigoryan on the actions through which the Foreign Intelligence Service will ensure or contribute to implementing this goal.

The lawmakers are now debating the creation of the Foreign Intelligence Service.

“One of the main goals for creating the Foreign Intelligence Service is that the service will be able to gather information regarding the security around Armenia, even the kind of information which isn’t publicly known. And then, to make analyses based on that information regarding the security environment and report to the Prime Minister, based on which decisions will be made. That information will pertain to Armenia’s security environment, where Artsakh too has an important role,” Grigoryan said.

The opposition MP asked what concrete actions would be made to solve the Lachin Corridor issue, for example.

“Russia is responsible for the Lachin Corridor. Responsibility for Lachin Corridor was given to Russia by the 9 November statement. And I’d like to hear questions from the opposition also in this direction because Russia is the main responsible for the Lachin Corridor,” Grigoryan said.

He said the Foreign Intelligence Service’s functions will be gathering and analyzing information, while the main actions will be carried out by other services.
