The recent negotiations in Brussels showed that a peace agreement is close, and it is the duty of the leaders of the two countries to do everything to allow the Armenian and Azerbaijani peoples to live in peace. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Belgium, Hadja Lahbib, during a joint press conference after the meeting held at Armenia’s Foreign Ministry.
“New consultations should take place in Brussels, as well as in Yerevan and Baku, and we all hope that they will reach a historic turning point, and to achieve this, you know, you can count on the EU.
In this difficult context, I would also like to welcome Armenia's decision to accept the EU observation mission in its territory, the purpose of which is to ensure security and stability in the border region,” said the Belgian Foreign Minister, then added. “I repeat, Belgium is deeply concerned about the humanitarian situation and its deterioration.
Restricting movement through the Lachin corridor has serious consequences and threatens disease and starvation."
The Belgian Foreign Minister also informed that during his morning meeting with the International Committee of the Red Cross, it was confirmed that the lives of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh are in danger and that this is unacceptable.
“Belgium fully accepts the position of EU, and Azerbaijan's obligation is to ensure the safety of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh and free movement through the Lachin Corridor.
Belgium and the EU will continue to insist and act in this direction in their diplomatic contacts," she said.
